City of Cookeville Customer Service/Billing Dept.

ImageThe City of Cookeville Customer Service/Billing Department is responsible for connection, disconnection and billing for utility services offered by the city. City owned utilities include electric, water, sewer and natural gas. We can normally provide same day service if you come to the Municipal Building, 45 E. Broad Street, before 4:30PM on the day service is requested. We also accept requests via facsimile by sending a copy of your valid driver's license and social security card. You must also include the address for which service is desired, the type services required and a phone number where you may be reached in case of questions. Fax requests may be sent to 931-526-4897. A copy of your lease is required from any person renting property. (The only exception to fax requests is for temporary service due to construction.)

Non-refundable application fees are $25.00 for electric, $15.00 for water and $20 for gas. There is an additional $10.00 non-refundable service charge for each service requested. For same day service after 2:00pm the service charge is $20.00 per service.

For your convenience, we have a drive through window for utility bill payment and a night depository for after hours payments. We also offer automatic bank draft for bill payment. Bills may be paid Monday through Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM at the Municipal Building, 45 East Broad Street. Payment may also be made by mailing to:

Water Quality Control (Water & Sewer Dept)

ImageWe have 5 full time and 4 part time employees working at the Water Treatment Plant. At the Wastewater treatment Plant we have 8 employees. Working on the distribution and collection system we have 17 employees. There are 5 administrative and staff support personnel that work with the water and wastewater programs. Presently we have 13,019 water customers and 12,304 sewer customers. We also sell water to the cities of Algood and Baxter plus the Cookeville Boatdock Utility District, Gainesboro Grade Utility District, Bangham Utility District and the Double Springs Utility District.

Cookeville Public Works Department

ImageThe Cookeville Public Works and Engineering Department employs sixty persons and has more than eighty vehicles and equipment to carry out its service for over 200 miles of streets. Public Works is responsible for Street Right-of-Way Maintenance as well as Sidewalk Repairs, Traffic Signals, Drainage, Brush, Leaf, and Snow Removal, Street Cleaning, Street Signs, Engineering and Road Projects.

Sanitation Services: Free Trash service in the city limits!

ImageOne 96-gallon cart is provided free to each resident This cart should hold all your weekly household garbage. If needed, additional carts may be obtained for a fee from the Public Works Department by calling (931) 520-5249. The Sanitation Department will only pick up the 96-gallon roll-out cart that is assigned to your particular residence by the Public Works Department. All other bags, cans, containers or carts will not be picked up.

Gas Department

ImageThe Cookeville Gas Department is a municipal-owned local distribution company (LDC). It has over 280 miles of gas lines and serves approximately 9000 customers over the Cookeville and Algood area. It installs mains in the streets, service lines from the main to buildings or meter locations, sets meters and regulators, lights pilots, and checks for leaks. For more information, call 520-4427. Natural gas is both colorless and odorless. The rotten egg smell is added to the gas for your safety.

Urban Forestry Division/Cookeville Tree Board
